Unusual eruptions
6. December 1985
On 6. December 1985 there was a powerful eruption which sent an ash colum to a height of about 2000m above the craters. Then a lava flow emerged at 680m.a.s.l. (top left and centre) which reached the sea via the Sciara del Fuoco.

Within a short time a small lava peninsula was formed (top right). Only during the first week did the lava flow actually reach the sea. However, it continued flowing in the upper parts of the Sciara until 25. April 1986.
