Unusual eruptions

Klaus Jäger reports a big explosion at Stromboli. Ejected bombs ignited bush vegetation. Fire fighting aeroplanes arfe in operation.

According to INGV the eruption occurred at 11h08 GMT (13h08 local time). On images taken by the livecam at 400m.a.s.l. the eruption cloud is well visible (see below).

According to Sergio Ballarò the eruption was very silent, and it was noticed only by people looking at the volcano at that moment. Below you can see the seismic footprint of the eruption, as recorded by our seismic station located in the village of San Bartolo. Note the sustained higher tremor amplitude after the explosion, located in the centre of the seismogram.
