Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, 1962 - What Is the Play about?
Dear Mr. Fischer:
While Who's Afraid of Vriginia Woolf is mainly about the need to rid ourselves of flase illusions in order to deal honorably with one another it is also - in a very indirect way - about the failure of the U.S. in living up to the reality demands of a great (or potentially great) nastion. We "illusion" ourselvers that we are living up to our potential as a great revolutionary society.
However - calling them George and Matha was nothing more than an idea.
Regards,
Edward Albee
