Map of camera positions | The craters from Pizzo25. April 1996. This picture was taken from Pizzo during a severe Scirocco storm (wind speeds at least 100km/h). This is why the smoke is blown towards the back and down the (Sciara del Fuoco) and the visibility of the craters is unusually good. The two individual photographs necessary for this stereo view could not be taken simultaneously because the storm conditions made setting up tripods utterly impossible. Therefore the remaining smoke does not appear in 3D. The viewing angle in the map of camera positions is 'C1 und C1-3'. | Crater 121. April 1996. From Pizzo, in the evening. On the right, in front of the cone-shaped hornito, is vents 1/2, which was permanently active in April/May 1996. Behind the hornito are vents 1/3 and 1/4. The two photos for this stereo view (and for the one below) were taken simultaneously, so that the smoke appears properly in 3D. Viewing angle in the map of camera positions: 'C1'. | Small eruption from vent 1/221. April 1996. This picture was taken during dusk using a relatively fast shutter speed. Therefore the trails of the flying, incadescent scoria are quite short. The height of the eruption is about 100 to 150m. Viewing angle in the map of camera positions: 'C1'. | Small eruption from crater 328. April 1996. Here the photo was exposed longer than in the picture above. During the exposure time the whole trajectories of the incadescent bombs were registered on the film. Thanks to the 3D effect it is possible to see which scoria flew towards the camera and which ones away. Viewing angle in the map of camera positions: 'C1-3'. |
