Accidents on Stromboli volcano
1970: Accident during «normal» Eruption
John O`Meara, who then lived at Stromboli and now lives in New Zealand reports: "In 1970, a Frenchman was killed standing with his tripod and camera by the edge of Southwest Crater (far left). I know because I was there one hour later, finding his body laying on its back, with his tripod and camera between his legs. The blast did not kill him, but the shock did! Not a very happy day, with one death, and low cloud concealing almost everything up on the summit."
