On 16 July 2009, we were able to relocate the exact site of a photograph taken in 1996. The earlier photo shows that Kongsbreen then was much thicker and hides more of the mountain peaks in the background. By 2009 the calving front has receded into the area visible in the images. Due to the dynamic nature of the terrain (melting ice-cored moraine) it was not possible to precisely re-locate the earlier position; therefore the foreground is not exactly compareable (MH).
