Main Characters

Vernon Gregory Little – The 15-year-old protagonist, falsely accused of being involved in a school shooting committed by his best friend. He narrates the story with sarcasm and cynicism.

Jesus Navarro – Vernon's best friend, who actually committed the school shooting. His name and role serve as a symbolic and ironic device throughout the novel.

Doris Little – Vernon’s self-absorbed and naive mother. Her poor judgment and craving for attention contribute to Vernon’s problems.

Lally (Eulalio Ledesma) – A manipulative media personality who exploits the tragedy for personal gain. He deceives Doris and frames Vernon further.

Pam, also known as Taylor Figueros – The girl Vernon is infatuated with. She flirts with him but is ultimately shallow and self-serving.

Supporting Characters

Palmyra – Doris’s friend, who tries to help Vernon but is largely ineffective.

Mr. Nuckles – A school counselor who fails to support Vernon properly.

Dr. Goosens – A sleazy psychiatrist who abuses his position of authority.

Pelayo – A character Vernon meets while on the run in Mexico; he plays a role in the climax of Vernon’s journey.
