Innerer-ringImpact-4
Previous«(4) Crater growth: The crater, which forms at first, is steep and unstable. From its inner walls material slides towards the middle. Therefore the crater diameter increases to a diameter of 24km. As the material slumps inwards in concentric blocks, there is too little space. Consequently some material is somewhat uplifted, forming the inner crater wall. Today this is the ring of hills surrounding the central crater plain. In other words, the ring visible today is not identical to the crater margin, which is further out (left; view from inner crater wall near the town of Wemding across the central plain). After about 3 minutes, towards the end of the crater forming process, the "eruption cloud" collapses.»Next
