Gaisbergferner (Tyrol)
1872 |
2009 |
Gaisbergferner is a narrow valley glacier SE of Obergurgl, Tyrol. During the Little Ice Age it reached a length of 3.8 km, but has receeded to 2.5 km in 2009. A very old photo by E. Laramy, Paris, shows it close to its maximum extent. The Little Ice Age moraine is visible between the two men. Another terminal moraine from the early 20th century is halfway between th latter and the 2009 glacier front. The two mountain glaciers on the flank of Hochfirst (3304m, upper left) are no longer in contact with Gaisbergferner, as they were in 1872.
