Special Days

Information

The short audios on the left are meant to be used as listening comprehension exercises. Listen to them with your class at the beginning of a lesson around the special day, thus introducing many new authors and events.
Have your students take notes while listening; ask factual questions and see who can answer most of them. You can also let your students discuss the topic in small groups.
If the audio is too difficult for some students, they can use the transcript.

Challenge your students! As soon as beginners know numbers, you can let them listen to the authors' biographies, which are full of numbers. They are especially marked in green.

The goal is to get students subjected to native pronunciation as early and as often as possible.

Alternatively you can listen to news items - e.g. BBC - One-Minute World News | ABC Australia - News in 90 Seconds

I am always looking for native speakers as readers. You can send me the reading as an audio file from anywhere.
Right now I would like to add South African, Australian, Nigerian, Indian, and Irish authors. If you are from one of these countries or know someone who is, please get in touch with SwissEduc.
