Santorini

Nea Kaimeni, the younger of the two islands in the centre of the Santorini caldera, has a whole assortment of cinder cones with shallow craters. Tourists are led to fumaroles which try hard to emit more than just a trace of sulphur dioxide.

Much more impressive than this remnant of volcanic activity is the spectacular landscape of block lava flows, breadcrust bombs and the view back to Thira and Thirasia's steep caldera walls.
