Hawaii: Pele's March to the Sea (6)



A large pahoehoe lava toe, several meters long, advances towards
us but then is stopped as a thin crust solidifies on its surface. After a while,
when the internal pressure of the lava becomes too great, the crust breaks open and the
lava advances another couple of meters. More than once we nearly loose our rucksacks
which we have carelessly deposited in the path of the advancing lava...
