Probability
Written by Jürg Gübeli
Contents | Arrangement of important ideas and problems on basic probability calculus in 12 workshops, each containing a folder with experiments, explanations and exercises and a folder with solutions |
Suitable for | Gymnasium, 10th–12th year |
Prerequisites | None. However, some exercises (in workshop 6) are easier to solve if permutations and combinations are understood. |
Time | Number of lessons required is indicated on each workshop. In total there are about 26 lessons (excluding tests). |
What's it about?
The main idea is to give an introduction into probability calculus by making the students experiment a lot and by doing so, grasping the ideas behind it intuitively. The 12 workshops are designed to be a SOL unit, i.e. the students study the papers and work in pairs on their own. The first six workshops cover the basics and are independent from each other. Workshops 7 to 12 are also independent from each other and cover some additional aspects including the expected value, the standard deviation and conditional probabilities.
