What's it about?
Students work in groups on one aspect of Japanese warfare in the Pacific. They should research additional information online and then present their topic to the rest of the class. Note: the Americans also committed atrocities in the Pacific. For more on this subject see John Dower, War without Mercy: Race and Power in the Pacific War, New York: Pantheon Books, 1986 or the documentary film “Hell in the Pacific” (shown on Channel 4, also on youtube), particularly part 4 “Armageddon”, in which US soldiers describe the practice of collecting Japanese gold teeth and skulls.
